WP3: Modelling and simulation of de-icing by (s)AW

A first objective of this WP is to understand the effect of atom lattice vibrations excited by SAW (i.e. MHz range) at the interface with ice. A second objective is the macro-scale modelling of the optimum distribution of (s)AW components depending on real substrates/parts in aircrafts to minimize power consumption

WP4: Icing / Functional / Aging tests of (s)AW devices and components

Determining the de-icing and anti-icing performance of single- and multi-(s)AW devices developed in WP1 and WP2 according to a test matrix accounting for critical icing processes and others like durability or erosion resistance (for WP2 multi-(s)AW devices) that are critical in aeronautics

WP5: Proof-of-concept of smart (s)AW device over larger area and validation

This WP aims at the fabrication and testing a PCD fabricated onto a large area (15×15 cm2) substrate integrating series of multifunctional (s)AW devices (sensor plus actuators) to proof de-icing feasibility with AWs for real applications. As final demonstration, the SOUNDofICE PCD will undergo a flight test

WP6: Communication, dissemination and IPR protection

Ensuring effective protection and diffusion of project results and that the de-icing SAW concept will be further developed and applied to real systems and applications. Establishing a roadmap for future exploitation.

WP6: Communication, dissemination and IPR protection
